About the Embroidery -
Chikankari is a traditional style of embroidery from Lucknow, India characterized by flawless craftsmanship and “lightness of touch.” It comes from the Persian words chikan(embroidery) and kari(by hand). Legend has it, Empress Nur Jehan introduced chikankari embrodiery to the Indian subcontinent along with other arts from the Mughal empire. It is an incredibly detailed embroidery style that commonly integrates motifs from Mughal architecture and designs. There are approximately 36 different types of stitches used in chikankari embroidery. Chikankari sarees, dupattas and kurtas are very lightweight and stylish, making them popular additions to a craft lovers wardrobe.
